Alpha Hydroxy Acids Used in Skin Care Treatments

Including alpha hydroxy acids(AHA’s) in skin care has increased greatly over the past years. Alpha hydroxy acids used for skin care is not new. They have been used for thousands of years as a skin rejuvenation treatment and as an anti aging skin care treatment. Glycolic and lactic acids make up AHA’s in most products since they are able to successfully penetrate the skin, going beyond the surface, to the deeper layers of our skin. These acids are primarily derived from fruit, milk and sugars.

Researchers report that AHA’s help to improve the appearance of wrinkles, softens the skin by sloughing off roughness, and resurfacing the skin after being photo damaged when used continuously daily over the course of several months. Now a common additive to hundreds of skin care products in dozens of skin care lines in both department stores and drugstores. You can find them being included in a wide range of products such as cleanser, moisturizers, night creams, toners, and masks.
